A city slickers grapevines part 2: Harvest time on the Thompson seedless grapes

Excitement was in the house this week as I plucked off the first grape harvest of the year!   Nothing is better than literally enjoying the fruits of your labor.  And nothing tastes better than yummy juicy grapes during the hot summer months.

I remember growing up we had a handful of grapevines in the backyard and every summer we devoured the tasty treats as if they where candy.  Then any leftover grapes we pluck off and left out on large screens then watched as the sun dried them into raisins.  And believer me, nothing bets freshly sun dried raisins, the store bought stuff can't hold a candle to the real deal.

Last year, our first harvest was a massive disappointment, the crop was small and the darn birds ate most of them.  But this year my sister gave me a great tip, cover all but the top of the clusters with paper bags.  That way they can still breathe and get a little sun, but they are protected from the hungry birds.  And it works!

So our first pick was a delicious snack than brought back many happy memories.  And now I can create new grape memories with my little man.

Here are some pictures of my yummy grapes!  Enjoy.  Next we will be chomping down on our Cabernet harvest. Wine anyone?
