The following is from a newsletter I received via email from Caduceus Cellars.
Aug. 28, 2012, Jerome, Ariz. -- Caduceus Cellars and Merkin Vineyards, one of the Verde Valley's pre-eminent wine producers, have launched a new website at Caduceus.org.
The new site launch, which gives visitors a behind-the-scenes look at the painstaking process that the Arizona Vineyard employs and gives detailed information on the award-winning blends and varietals, coordinates with the Fall launch of six new bottles: 2010 Nagual del Judith, 2010 Nagual del Marzo, 2010 Nagual de la Pacienca, 2010 Nagual de la Naga, 2010 Kitsune and 2009 Sancha. Some of these bottles, because of their highly limited nature, will only be available to Velvet Slipper Club members (Caduceus' wine club) while others will be available via the Caduceus tasting room in Arizona and through the Caduceus.org website. Wine shipments resume at the end of September but pre-orders are available now.
Caduceus Cellars was recently honored by the San Francisco International Wine Competition, with vineyard founder/winemaker Maynard James Keenan earning one of the first gold medals ever awarded to an Arizona winemaker for the 2011 Dos Ladrones. Tim White, the winemaker at Caduceus' sister vineyard Arizona Stronghold, took gold medals for the 2010 Arizona Stronghold Vineyards Site Archive Syrah and Arizona Stronghold Vineyards Tazi. White also won a double gold medal for the 2010 Arizona Stronghold Vineyards Dala Cabernet. Caduceus Cellars also won a silver medal for their 2010 Anubis.
"Every new grape growing and wine making region longs for its Judgment of Paris moment. A blind event that levels the playing field," explained Keenan. "An event where experts recognize your efforts as world class. We, the Arizona wine growers, haven't quite had that moment with our wines yet, but we recently came damn close. Before 2012 the San Francisco International Wine Competition, a highly respected event that does not just hand out medals indiscriminately, had only awarded a couple of bronze medals to an Arizona wine. This is a historic step towards acceptance in the international/national wine maker's world. Congratulations go out to Tim. We wish him continued success. This is a big win for Arizona wines."

This is once again fabulous news for Arizona wine fans, and for the industry it's self. The more positive press these winemakers receive, the more the negative and condescending attitudes will slowly dissolve. Arizona is here to stay and we are a legitimate wine producing region, and the dedication these winemakers and winery owners have to the state will continue to elevate the quality and quantity of the wine.
The best part of these awards, all the wines that won, where made with Arizona grapes, not California! That is huge. Up to this point many of the awards have gone to wines made with mainly California grapes or an AZ/CA fusion, so this is a big step in the right direction for our state. So congrats once again the Caduceus Cellars and Arizona Stronghold Winery.
Lucky me, I have tasted all the wines listed above that received awards! To read my reviews please click on the corresponding links below. Cheers to Arizona wine!
