Stressed, overworked, overjoyed and over heated does not even begin to describe the last few weeks of my September.
As you have noticed I have not written anything new in quite some time. Blame it on those darn swim team kids and my devotion to them. Or you could blame it on my new title, auntie Renee.
Normally the swim season is hot, but this year, we are still in triple digits and it's fall? What? Love Phoenix. Anyways, it has been a hot year to be on deck coaching my alma mater swim team. Not only is it hot, but my partner in crime, my sister, had her baby three weeks earlier than we all expected. Now, I was overjoyed to become a aunt, thrilled to the max actually, however after I had to go back to the team without her, the work load sunk in. Then my stress level was magnified. I had to learn how to do her job, it is so true, you never realize how hard someone works until you have to do what they did! And boy did she do allot behind the scenes, all stuff I had to learn and learn in record time. Needless to say many tears where shed last week.
This past Thursday was our first big meet of the season, the first meet that counted for the swimmers. Normally, I am the worker bee on these meets, and my sister is the head chief, so in less than a week I had to learn how to be both. Thankfully I had tons of help, and everyone rallied around me to assist, and get what needed to be done, done. The meet went off well, only a few nail biting moments, and the swimmers all swam their best times of the season. While stress is never good for your health, at least it was worth it to see my swimmers do so well in the pool that day!
So what do you drink when you get home from a stressful and successful event? What wine did I pop open (not once but twice) to celebrate getting over a massive hurdle? Champagne of coarse! Yes, the real stuff, not sparkling wine, not cava, but the real deal. And boy, oh boy, was it so good. And not only did it taste awesome, so was the price, $15! Steal of the century. Sometimes living in an area where real quality wine is not appreciated does pay off, because it always goes on clearance, and I get to splurge without the financial guilt.
Perrier Jouet Grand Brut Champagne NV France. Found at Fry's grocery store for, wait for it, $15!
Not many notes on this guy, only because it was a victory wine, and victory wines are not meant for notes. It was perfectly refreshing with crisp acidity, and than wonderful yeasty, baked apple aroma and taste. It had those gorgeous tight bubbles that danced on your palate with every sip, man do I love bubbly. This wine would be perfect with any food, but would love to be paired with a crisp summer salad, sushi, or anything fried. If you can find this wine on sale, or clearance I highly recommend it.
Cheers to celebrations of the small victories in life. Or the big ones, like becoming an aunt, and having little niece to play dress up with! Remember wine is for sharing, and celebrating life, so don't be a stick in the mud and open up that bottle and have some fun. Life is too short to miss that glorious sound of a Champagne bottle being opened.
Cheers!
